The Game of Thrones prequel is a series debut that draws nearly 10 million viewers across all platforms.

A record-breaking audience tuned in to HBO’s House of the Dragon on Sunday.

HBO says a prequel to Game of Thrones that takes place 200 years before the current series and focuses on the Targaryen family. This prequel got watched by nearly 10 million people across all platforms in the United States. HBO has never had a more significant series premiere than that.

The premiere also marked the highest-rated series launch for HBO Max in the Americas, Latin America, and the EMEA region — Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. (Per usual, streaming figures aren’t broken out.)

“It was wonderful to see millions of Game of Thrones fans return with us to Westeros last night,” said Casey Bloys, HBO’s chief content officer. ”House of the Dragon features an incredibly talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into the production, and we’re ecstatic with viewers’ positive response. We look forward to sharing with audiences what else George [R.R. Martin], Ryan [Condal], and Miguel [Sapochnik] have in store for them this season.”
