“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences,” said Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon.
He has been officially charged with assault with a firearm after the Harlem-born rapper got arrested in April for allegedly shooting a friend during a conflict last November in Los Angeles.
The District Attorney for Los Angeles County announced charges for assault with an automatic firearm with charges of personally possessing a gun on Monday. It was ahead of the rapper’s trial scheduled for Wednesday. His prison sentence could reach nine years if convicted of the offense.
“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood,” George Gascón said. “My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted.” (Rappers’ representatives declined to comment.)
A$AP Relli, aka Terell Ephron, filed a lawsuit accusing Mayers of shooting him. Former A$AP Mob member and longtime friend claimed the rapper had “lured” him to a Hollywood location to discuss a disagreement.
“Unbeknownst to Mr. Ephron, A$AP Rocky was not just planning for a conversation and came armed with a semi-automatic handgun,” it got said. “After arriving at the location, a conversation ensued whereby without provocation, warning, or any justification, A$AP Rocky produced the handgun and intentionally fired multiple shots at Mr. Ephron.”
As Mayers approached Ephron, he “purposefully pointed it in the direction” of one of his old friends, who “was struck by bullet projectile/fragments” on his left hand, the suit claims.
Ephron, a talent manager, producer, and designer, says he’s suffering physical, mental, and emotional injuries and has received death threats.
He is due compensation of at least $25,000.
The shooting broke in April, shortly after Mayers had landed at LAX following a trip to Barbados with his girlfriend Rihanna, just before they were expecting their first child. After posting a bond of $500,000, he got quickly released from jail.
