Anne Heche, the actress, has died. On Friday, August 5, a car accident caused her to be thrown into a coma for more than a week before she passed away.

Shortly before her death, her family released a statement informing the public that the 53-year-old actress lacked the chances of surviving a fatal brain injury. Her family took her off life support on Friday afternoon around 1 PM, based on the doctors’ decision to donate her organs.

According to the family representative, “Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition. She is not expected to survive.” Continuing, “It has long been her choice to donate her organs, and she’s being kept on life support to determine if any are viable.

Since the tragic car accident, her family has also been overwhelmed by the support of fans and celebrities.

Authorities had reported that Anne Heche had been under investigation following a car accident for felony DUI in which drugs were discovered in her system.

According to LAPD officer Lizeth Lomeli, “Based on the blood work, it revealed the presence of narcotics. However, additional testing is required because we have to rule out any substances that were administered by medical treatment.”
