Fortunately, during the search efforts on Thursday at approximately 11:30 am, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter spotted a boat around 20 nautical miles offshore.

After nearly three days of extensive search efforts, the search for Ashley McKellar, a missing boater off the Hunter coast in New South Wales, has been scaled back.

Authorities believe he may have set off in his medium-sized aluminum boat from Bolton Point later that morning.
Despite favorable conditions, search teams, including volunteers from Marine Rescue NSW and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, could not locate him, leading to the decision to scale back the search.
Water Police will continue patrolling the area, but the probability of finding McKellar alive is very low.
The disappointment is shared by the volunteers who returned from the unsuccessful search without providing closure for McKellar’s family and loved ones.
Marine Rescue NSW zone commander Steve Raymond advised others planning to go offshore to log their journey with Marine Rescue NSW through the organization’s app, as it enables a quick response in case of delays or emergencies.

His boat, a Telewater 4.8-meter aluminum runabout with registration plate VK844N, is believed to have been launched from the lake access at Bolton Point on Wednesday morning.
