According to a representative for Kanye West, his upcoming album Donda will be released on August 6. In a post last week, Justin Laboy and West collaborator Malik Yusef mentioned the August release date. Donda was scheduled for release on Friday, July 23, through G.O.O.D. Music and Def Jam Recordings.

Donda premiered at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on July 22 during Kanye West’s listening event. Apple Music kept the event rolling on its Global Livestream, and 3.3 million viewers tuned in to check out the live stream.

In addition to West reuniting with JAY-Z in Atlanta, Pop Smoke, Travis Scott, Pusha T, Baby Keem, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, and others contributed to his album. On top of that, “No Child Left Behind” was featured in a new Beats advertisement starring Sha’Carri Richardson. Donda reportedly led to the City of Atlanta, proclaiming July 22 as Kanye West Day.

The album will follow Kanye West’s 2019 solo album Jesus Is King. A gospel album produced by Kanye and his Sunday Service Choir was released on Christmas Day that year, featuring gospel music by the 44-year-old rapper.

The singer’s previous solo record came out in 2018 and was followed by a collaboration with Kid Cudi; Kids See Ghosts.

From the release of Kids See Ghosts to the announcement of Jesus Is King, West teased and finally announced the release of an album called Yandhi. Although the record was scheduled for release on September 29, it never appeared.

Yandhi followed up with more delays and setbacks. On Twitter, Kanye eventually wrote:

“I realize the new album I’ve been working on isn’t ready yet. I’ll announce the release date once it’s done. Thank you for understanding.”

In 2019, Kanye completed two opera pieces, Nebuchadnezzar and Mary, while his album was apparently on hold. Additionally, he toured the country with his Sunday Service choir, performing at Coachella and many other venues.

Kanye West kicked off 2020 with the Yeezy Season 8 fashion show. He later released a song featuring Travis Scott called “Wash Us In The Blood” and teased another album titled “God’s Country.”

He then dropped God’s Country and planned to release another album titled Donda. The album, however, has not been released yet.

While Kanye was pursuing his music career, he ran his unfortunately vain presidential campaign.

The fashion mogul’s estranged wife, Kim Kardashian, attended the Donda premiere in Atlanta despite the divorce proceedings.
