Cannes Film Festival, which was canceled the previous year for the first time since World War II, is back. An unmissable date on the film industry calendar, the annual festival takes place in the French Riviera’s most beautiful resort town, presenting movies such as “Pulp Fiction” and “Taxi Driver.”

Cannes has a show-stopping red carpet, and celebrities often arrive by luxury yachts, so it’s just as much a fashion week as it is a film festival. Yet, an entire year after the Covid-19 pandemic left the famed boardwalk to rot, the Promenade de la Croisette still glistens and shines.

In conjunction with the 74th edition of this legendary festival, the 2021 competition jury was officially announced. This year, Spike Lee is serving as the president of the jury. The Oscar winner director Spike Lee was accompanied by actress-director Mélanie Laurent, actor Song Kang-ho, actor Tahar Rahim, director Mati Diop, writer-director Jessica Hausner, singer-songwriter Mylène Farmer, writer-director Kleber Mendonça Filho, and actress-director Maggie Gyllenhaal.
A list of winners will be unveiled at the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, July 17.

As the winner of this year’s Honorary Palme d’Or, Jodie Foster was at the center of a day one photocall. The first time Jodie attended Cannes was with the film “Taxi Driver” starring Martin Scorsese, which won the Palme d’Or.

“Annette,” the Leos Carax-directed musical that opens the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, was the final photocall of day one. In Cannes, Carax is with his stars Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard and the art-pop duo Sparks, who wrote the music for the film and came up with the storyline.

However, the star of Cannes’ opening night film, “Annette,” decided to leave first thing in the morning. As a result, Adam Driver did not attend the press conference that follows a competition film’s press screening.

Film festival attendees included several celebrities. Some of the celebrities we’ve seen in the film festival so far include Bella Hadid wearing a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier gown, Marion Cotillard in a Chanel number, and Spike Lee in a bright pink Louis Vuitton suit.
