Eleanor May Simmonds is a British former Paralympian swimmer born on November 11, 1994, who competed in S6 events.

Ellie was born in Walsall and grew up in Aldridge.

She finished elementary school at Cooper and Jordan CofE Primary before moving on to Aldridge School and, later, Olchfa School in Swansea.

Simmonds came to attention when she competed in the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing.

She earned two further gold medals in London, with also a World Record in the 400m freestyle.

“It’s not just physical but it helps mentally, going swimming, it clears my mind and I am able to push my body to its limits,” Ellie, whose parents reside in Aldridge, said.

Simmonds announced her Paralympic retirement on September 2, 2021, after competing at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Likewise, after retiring, it was announced that she would be participating in the BBC One Show Strictly Come Dancing.

In a recent interview, Ellie revealed that she decided to find her birth mother as she starts a new chapter with partner Matt Dean.
