Marshall Bruce Mathers III, commonly known as Eminem, is a famous American rapper, actor, songwriter, and record producer. He is also called Slim Shady. He is the only child of Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr. and Deborah Nelson. 

Eminem is an Academy Award winner and a Grammy-winning artist who has made a significant impact in the music industry. For instance, he has sold over 220 million records worldwide.

Father

Eminem’s father is Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr. He was in a Daddy Warbucks band. His name was after his dad Malcolm Marshall III. Unfortunately, his father walked out of Eminem’s life and never returned.

As a teenager, he wrote many letters to his dad. However, it was all returned to him without any one of them being read. In the song Headlights, he claims his father abandoned him and his mother and ruined the family.

His father has two children from his subsequent marriage.

Mother

Eminem’s mother is Deborah Rae Nelson who goes by the name Debbie. Debbie was also in Eminem’s father’s band. The pair however separated after his birth.

Kimberly Anne Scott (ex-wife)

Eminem’s Drug Issues

It is no mystery that the rapper had a severe drug addiction. During the filming of 8 miles, Eminem worked more than 16 hours a day. As a result, he soon developed insomnia and began taking Ambien tablet to cure this

Later on, the amount soon began to increase, and so did the variety of drugs. He would take breaks while recording and pop pills of Vicodin, Ambien and Valium. The rapper said that the drug helped him sleep better. The amount increased during his tour as well.

In 2007, he overdosed and spent days in the hospital. The doctor said that he was two hours from dying. To help him, singer Elton John stepped up and sobered him up. Actually, they are excellent friends. Eminem has been sober for over ten years now.

Career

Eminem began rapping as a hobby when he was 14. After dropping out of high school, he immersed himself in hip-hop and called himself MC Double M and began participating in rap battles in 1988.

He also picked up shifts in a family restaurant and worked for sixty hours a week. He was later fired just before Christmas. Eminem gained popularity through his alter ego, Slim Shady. He wrote songs about mental instability, drug abuse, and violence.

In 2003, Eminem became the first and the only artist to win an Academy Award for his rap song Lose Yourself. However, the rapper claimed that it was so unexpected that he stayed home thinking he would never win.
