Born and raised in the small town of La Angostura, located north of Sinaloa, Mexico, Espinoza Paz is the son of Isidro Cháve and María de la Paz Espinoza.
He developed an interest in music from a very young age. Espinoza Paz wrote his first song when he was just 11 years old.
He wrote the song to honor a girl he had a huge crush on. After this, Paz grew even more interested in songwriting, and by the age of 13, he had written over 20 songs.
After his father sent him money from the United States, Espinoza bought his first guitar. He then taught himself to play the guitar. Unfortunately, he lost his mother, María de la Paz Espinoza, in the 1990s.
Espinoza Paz Career
Before starting his musical career, Espinoza Paz worked a number of different jobs. Then, a year before his musical career took off, Espinoza worked as a gardener in Oregon.
Espinoza Paz shot to fame after he presented his compositions to the famous Sinaloan band singer El Coyote. El Coyote helped Espinoza in recording the songs “Besitos En El Cuello” (“Little Kisses On The Neck”), “Prohibido” (“Forbidden”), and “Para Impresionarte” (“To Impress You”).
Espinoza Paz had a stroke of luck after meeting radio and music personality Martin Fabian in December 2006. Martin Fabian instantly recognized Paz’s incredible musical abilities and assisted in his career growth.
Not long after meeting, the duo worked together on Paz’z debut album, “Paz En Tu Corazón” (Peace In Your Heart). The album was released in 2007.
It was released in association with Nueva Generacion Music Group. Following the release of his debut album, Espinoza Paz released his second independent album titled “Amigo Con Derechos” (“Friend With Benefits”).
After releasing his second album, Paz landed a recording contract with the major label Universal Latino in 2008. This allowed him to release his first major label album, “El Canta Autor del Pueblo” (“The Village Singer-Songwriter”), the same year.
His major album contained his eight previously released hit songs, including “El Celular” (“The Cell Phone”) and “Amigo con Derechos” (“Friend With Benefits”). It also included four new recordings.
The album was a hit among Latin music lovers. The song “El Proximo Viernes” (“Next Friday”) became a fan favorite and successfully ranked #14 on Billboard Magazine’s “Hot Latin Tracks” chart.
Following the success of his first major label album, Paz collaborated with many well-known artists, including Sergio Vega, La Arrolladora Banda El Limón, Banda Cuisillos, Eminem, Julio Chaidez, Banda de Jerez, Jenni Rivera, Chuy Lizarraga, Adair Elizalde, El Potro de Sinaloa, Calibre 50, Montez de Durango, Julión Álvarez, El Chapo de Sinaloa, and Duelo. In addition, he penned many hit songs for these notable artists.
Espinoza Paz released the album “Del Rancho Para El Mundo” in 2010. The album helped skyrocket Paz to fame.
The song “Al Diablo Lo Nuestro” was a huge hit. Ultimately, Espinoza Paz earned a nomination for a Latin Grammy Award. Likewise, the album was certified Gold.
The following year, Paz released the album “Canciones Que Duelen,” which was again certified Gold. Making its debut at #1 on the Billboard Latin Albums Chart, “Canciones Que Duelen” also contained the hit single “Para No Perderte.”
Later, Paz released the album in a deluxe version and a DVD that included several of his live performances. Finally, his compilation album, “Un Hombre Normal,” was released in 2012.
The album featured some of Paz’s smash hits, remixes of his old songs, and many new songs. In addition, the title track reached #1 on the Latin Charts.
In 2012, Paz announced his retirement, disappointing many of his loyal fans. He made this decision after he faced a lawsuit from his former manager. He announced his retirement on Twitter and wrote,
“I can’t tell you why, but in 2013, I’m leaving music. Money doesn’t matter when you don’t have peace.”
Many criticized Paz’s announcement as a publicity stunt. However, it was later revealed by entertainment reporter Vanessa Delgado that the Mexican singer received death threats from Mexican organized crime and drug trafficking groups. She also revealed,
“He’s a pretty simple guy, and I think he’s not used to so many things.” Then, hinting at possible kidnapping threats, she said, “He’s terrified.”
Fortunately, after switching labels from “Nueva Generacion Music Group” to “Anval Music” in 2014, Paz decided to unretire. However, Paz faced a decline in his popularity during this time, even though he released many singles under his new record label.
Espinoza Paz also released an album of all Mariachi songs collaborating with the group Mariachi Sol De Mexico. Although the album was initially titled “Las Facturas del Destino,” Paz changed its title and only released it in 2016.
