The Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise’s upcoming sequel, Doctor Strange 2, features a mysterious 50-year-old undersea monster as a villain.
Actress Yenifer Molina’s profile on the professional networking site Mandy reveals that she has taken on the role of “Gargantos 2” in Marvel Studios’ forthcoming film. Unfortunately, the website does not offer any other information on this role.
Originally drawn by Roy Thomas and Marie Severin, a one-eyed sea monster called Gargantos first appeared in Marvel’s Sub-Mariner in 1969. It was then that Namor the Sub-Mariner met and defeated Naga, the Lemurian Emperor, who unleashed a powerful monster on humanity.
Two decades later, Gargantos made a brief appearance once again in X-Factor Annual, a story by Peter Sanderson and Mark Bagley. Since then, the monstrous sea creature has not been seen.
Yanifer, as Gargantos in the movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, may have some connection to this not-so-classic monster. However, according to the comics, the creature never took on a human appearance, so Yanifer is likely to play an entirely different character as the creature.
According to her profile on Mandy, Yanifer likewise has roles in this year’s Tom and Jerry live-action/animated films and 2019’s Pokémon Detective Pikachu.
According to Disney+, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will follow the events of Loki and WandaVision, along with 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Tom Hiddleston, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sam Raimi, Xochitl Gomez, Benedict Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Rachel McAdams.
Film screenings will take place on March 25, 2022.
