Harrison Ford reunited with his Indiana Jones costar Ke Huy Quan backstage at the D23 Expo on Saturday. The pair exchanged a warm embrace as they hugged each other, posed for a picture Quan took, and later posted it to his Instagram page.
The actor captioned his post, “I love you, Indy. [Finally], Indiana Jones and Short Round reunited after 38 years.”
A famous character in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was Quan’s portrayal of a young, wisecracking pickpocket named Short Round, who becomes the lovable sidekick of Indy.
In his later career, he was cast as Data in The Goonies, a role that made him a well-known actor before taking a 35-year hiatus.
Quan recently told in an interview, “After being in Indy and The Goonies, [there were] very little opportunities for me.”
Ultimately, he turned his attention to filmmaking, studying at USC and working as a choreographer and assistant director on various projects.
Quan discovered hope for exciting roles for Asians and Asian Americans in Hollywood only after he saw Crazy Rich Asians in theaters.
Waymond, Michele Yeoh’s onscreen husband, has since been acclaimed for his performance as the actor in Daniels’ Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Quan is joining the cast of Loki season 2 as an employee of the Time Variance Authority, which was announced at D23 on Saturday.
Similarly, Ford also took the time to introduce the first trailer for Indiana Jones 5 at the Disney convention, during which he announced the project was in the works.
The 80-years-old actor also confirmed that he would wear the iconic leather jacket and fedora for the final time in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
During his speech, he got emotional and thanked the audience for making these films such a memorable experience for him. Audience members cheered his remarks, adding that he’s proud of this performance.
As he continued to speak, he was in tears, “Indiana Jones movies are about fantasy and mystery, but they are also about heart. We have a really human story to tell, as well as a movie that will kick your ass.”
However, Ford clarified that he would not return as Jones again, joking, “This is it! I will not fall down for you again.”
‘Indiana Jones 5’ is scheduled to hit the theatres on June 30, 2023, while the second season of Loki is going to be released in the summer of 2023 on Disney+.
