Britney Spears may no longer be under her father, Jamie Spears’, conservatorship, but the legal wrangling over her case is far from done. According to the latest developments, Jamie has requested that Britney continue to pay his legal bills.

According to Variety, Jamie requested that Britney’s estate pay the lawyers involved in “proceedings addressing Jamie’s ongoing fiduciary duties linked to winding up” her conservatorship. His lawyer is said to charge $1,200 per hour.

Britney was compelled to pay all of her father’s legal fees, as well as her legal bills related to the conservatorship, including all of the legal filings and processes she went through to get out of it.

“Prompt payment” to Jamie’s attorneys is required, according to the legal petition, to “guarantee the Conservatorship may be ended up swiftly and efficiently to allow Britney to regain control of her life as she and Jamie desire.”

Britney’s attorney, however, was firm in his response to the request, calling it an “abomination” because Britney had accused Jamie of “conservatorship abuse.”

In a statement, Britney’s lawyer, Matthew Rosengart, stated,

“Mr. Spears reaped many millions of dollars from Britney as a conservator, while paying his lawyers millions more, all from Britney’s work and hard-earned money.”

Jamie stated in his filing that since taking up the duty of administering his daughter’s conservatorship in 2008, he has solely had his daughter’s best interests at heart. The courts “certified and approved” his performance in that position throughout his term.

Indicating Britney’s allegations against him, Jamie’s court declaration stated,

“It would be contrary to public policy if Jamie’s years of effort to protect his daughter… might expose him to personal bankruptcy and ruin fighting unfounded charges. No person would ever want to step into the role as conservator if a conservatee could force a conservator to personally pay substantial legal fees defending unfounded allegations.”

In his response, Britney’s Lawyer said,

“The conservatorship has been terminated, and Mr. Spears was suspended ignominiously. Under the circumstances, his petition is not only legally meritless, it is an abomination. Britney poignantly testified about the pain her father caused her, which only adds to it. This is not what a father who loves his daughter does.”

Jamie received $6 million as conservator of Britney’s estate, according to The New York Times. Her estate is estimated to be worth $60 million at the moment.
