‘Aquaman’ actor Jason Momoa shaved off his long hair for a good cause yesterday, posting a video on Instagram of the new shorter version of his hairstyle to raise awareness about the problem of plastic pollution and its dangers.
“Aloha, everyone,” he started the video, as he asked someone to “hand me those braids.” Then he held up two scrunchie-adorned pink plaits that had recently shaved from the sides of his head.
The 43-years-old actor said while rubbing his head and laughing at the breeze blowing past, “Shaving off the hair. Ooh, man, I’ve never even felt the wind right there.”
An anonymous woman shaved the side of the shirtless actor’s head as he revealed he was doing it to combat single-use plastics pollution.
After being named as a United Nations Environment Program, Advocate for Life Below Water in June, the Game of Thrones actor said, “I am tired of these plastic bottles. We got to stop. Plastic forks. All that s—t. It just goes into our land, into our ocean.”
During a visit to Hawaii, Mamoa witnessed ocean pollution in action while filming the haircut. He said, “It is just so sad, so please, anything you can do to eliminate single-use plastics in your life. Help me.”
In his caption, he wrote, “Here’s to new beginnings; let’s spread the aloha [and] be better at protecting our land and oceans. We need to cut single-use plastics out of our lives and out of our seas. Plastic bottles, plastic bags, packaging, utensils, all of it. Let’s aloha our ‘āina together aloha j.”
Fans were surprised to see Momoa’s new look. David Bautista and Marisa Tomei expressed similar opinions, saying, “What !!” and “Whaaaaat?!!!,” predictably.
Throughout his career, Momoa’s trademark long waves have been an essential part of his look, and he has even launched his own scrunchie line in an effort to highlight his passion for hair accessories.
