Early Life, Parents, and Upbringing

Born in Opa-Locka, Miami, Florida, Jatavia Shakara Johnson grew up in Carol City and Liberty City. While the names of Jatavia’s parents are currently unavailable, it is known that the rapper’s parents separated when she was just five years old.

Raised in a middle-class African-American family, Jatavia grew up in a big family. She is the youngest of sixteen children. Moreover, Jatavia Shakara Johnson’s childhood was turbulent as she grew up in a dysfunctional family. 

Her parents frequently argued with each other, which caused Jatavia to behave rudely and aggressively as a child. Moreover, her mother was a drug addict, which caused many problems for Jatavia and her family. 

In an interview with Hotnewhiphop.com, Jatavia shared that her mother’s addiction ruined her childhood. Moreover, she described how her mother’s drug abuse influenced her to remain sober.

Career

In 2017, Jatavia Shakara Johnson and Caresha Romeka Brownlee co-founded the hip-hop band City Girls. They adopted the stage names JT and Yung Miami, respectively. 

After signing to Quality Control Music, JT and Yung Miami released their debut studio track titled “Fuck Dat Nigga”. “Fuck Dat Nigga” was a diss track towards their ex-boyfriends for not fulfilling their financial needs. 

The song was able to garner hundreds of thousands of plays after Yung Miami heavily promoted the track through her social media accounts. Likewise, she paid DJs to play the song in clubs. 

In January 2018, the official music video for “Fuck Dat Nigga” was released. It also featured an appearance from rapper Trina.

Not long after the song’s release, JT was arrested and sentenced to 24 months in federal prison after being charged with aggravated identity theft and fraudulent credit card crime. During JT’s incarceration, Yung Miami spent her time promoting their music. She said,
