Who is Jessica Sanchez?

Born on August 4, 1995, Jessica Sanchez is an American singer-songwriter and actress. Jessica is the runner-up on American Idol’s eleventh season. Her full name is Jessica Elizabeth Sanchez. Before appearing on the eleventh season of American Idol, Jessica had also participated in America’s Got Talent at the age of eleven. Apart from this, Sanchez has been a part of the musical comedy-drama TV show Glee and the Philippine television reality talent competition show called The Clash.

Early life, parents, and upbringing

Jessica was born in Chula Vista, California. She is the daughter of Edita Sanchez and Gibert Sanchez. Her mother, Edita is originally from Samala, Bataan, Philippines. Likewise, her father, Gilbert, is a Mexican American. He is from Texas, USA, and is an Aviation Ordnanceman First Class Petty Officer in the United States Navy Reserves. Apart from this, Jessica also has two brothers who are younger than her. 

Jessica Sanchez career

Sanchez first appeared on the musical TV show Showtime at Appolo in 2005. A year later, she participated in America’s Got Talent as a wildcard act. However, she was not selected for the show’s grand finale. Jessica performed ‘The Star-Spangled Banner- before the match between the San Diego Chargers and the New York Jets in the 2008 NFL season. 

Similarly, she also recorded a cover of a song by Rihanna for iTunes in 2009. She worked with the independent record label called Spin Move Records. This wasn’t the only time Jessica worked with the label. They collaborated for the second time in 2010 when Sanchez released an exclusive cover of the song ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ for YouTube. Additionally, the singer became one of the contributing artists for YouTube’s charity single ‘We are The World 25 for Haiti’. 

In July 2011, Jessica was selected in the auditions of American Idol’s eleventh season. She was eliminated in the 28th episode but the judges eventually saved her from the eliminations by using the “Judges Save” option. Sanchez made it all the way to the show’s grand finale. She became the show’s runner up whereas Philip Philips became the ultimate winner. After her American Idol stint, Jessica signed a record deal with Interscope Records in 2012. She went on to perform ‘You’re All I Need’ by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell at the 2012 Democratic National Convention held in Charlotte, North Carolina in September 2012. 

Besides this, Sanchez also appeared in the musical comedy-drama show Glee. She made an appearance on the episode All or Nothing and the episode Lights Out. She played the role of Frida Romero, the lead vocalist of The Hoosierdaddies. In 2018, Sanchez competed in the Philippine television reality talent competition show called The Clash.
