Kaniehtiio Alexandra Jessie Horn, also known as Kaniehtiio Horn, was born on November 8, 1986, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Specifically, she was born outside of Montreal near Kahnawake Mohawk.
She grew up with working parents alongside three sisters. When she was just four years old, she was on a newspaper’s front page with her older half-sister, Waneek.
Waneek was stabbed by a soldier wielding a bayonet in the chest. She was holding, Kaneiehtiio in her arms at the time. She was then photographed for the local newspaper. The picture was later used as a symbol to represent the standoff between the Canadian government and Mohawks.
Even though Horn decided to take acting as her ultimate profession, she had other hobbies too. Being inspired by her older sister, she loved swimming and also learned water polo when she was a teenager.

She began appearing in short films for a while. After that, her big break came in 2006 when she got a role in miniseries called Indian Summer: The Oka Crisis. Later in 2007, she did a drama film called The Colony. In 2008, she appeared in Moccasin Flats: Redemption, for which she was nominated for Gemini Award.
