Kelly recently got divorced from her husband of seven years, Brandon Blackstock.
Brandon Blackstock is the son of Narvel Blackstock and Elissa Gayle Ritter. Narvel was Kelly’s talent manager.
Kelly married Brandon, at the Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tennessee, on October 20, 2013. The venue was in the Great Smoky Mountains and had immense greenery.
Clarkson wore a Temperley Bridal’s “Jessamine” dress from the Iris Collection. She wore a headpiece from Maria Elena to complete the look. And she did look gorgeous!
Kelly had worn a dress from Marchesa and Monique Lhuillier for her engagement shoot.
Brandon already had two children named from his previous marriage to Melissa Ashworth. The children had also attended the wedding as Kelly loves them.
Kelly gave birth to a daughter, River Rose, on June 12, 2014, and a son, Remington Alexander, on April 12, 2016.
Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock
Kelly and Brandon first met at a rehearsal for the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2006.
Then, Blackstock was a country group’s tour manager. Plus, he was still married to his first wife, Melissa Ashworth. The moment she saw Brandon, she got attracted to him but did not approach him.
After six years, they met again at the 2012 Super Bowl. Kelly sang the national anthem, and Blackstock was there to support Blake Shelton.
It was then that she confessed that she liked him to which Brandon was shocked as he thought she hated him. She did not tell what got Blackstock interested, but all we know is that it involved alcohol.
Clarkson knew that whom she had found was someone unique. They had their first date on February 11, 2012 – the day Whitney Houston, Clarkson’s idol, died. She thought it was a bad sign, but well, ten months later, Kelly and Brandon got engaged.
Kelly gave birth to her daughter, River, in 2014. She became inspired to write a song named ‘Piece by Piece.’
‘Piece by Piece’ is a song where she compares her father to her husband. She said that Blackstock is different from her father, who abandoned her when still a kid.
Blackstock was a perfect partner on her journey of raising a kid while managing her career. She felt fortunate for it.
Brandon has always been her support system, and he was the one to motivate her to host her show. Sadly, they had to part ways. Due to irreconcilable differences, Kelly filed for divorce in 2020.
Road to fame
What did Kelly Clarkson do before she was an American Idol?
Before she was a superstar, Kelly had her share of struggles. She worked many jobs to fund a demo and recording material to send it to record labels. She would not get a positive response.
Nevertheless, Kelly rejected the ones she got a good response from; Juve Records and Interscope Records. It is because she thought that they would turn her music into something else. Something she does not stand for.
In 2011, Kelly Clarkson traveled to Los Angeles to pursue her career in music. She briefly worked with a musician Gerry Goffin and recorded five demo tracks to get a record deal. But, the sad thing is that she got turned down for sounding too black.
Her life became messier when a fire incident broke in her apartment. With no job and no shelter, Kelly returned to Burleson. There she worked jobs at a movie theater and as a cocktail waitress in Comedy Clubs.
How did Kelly Clarkson achieve her success?
After returning to Burleson, Kelly’s friends encouraged her to audition for the American Idol. On September 4, 2002, she won the competition by earning 58% more votes than the runner-up Justin Guarini.
