When Kim Kardashian wore Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress to the Met Gala 2022, it caused quite a stir. However, she did not damage the gown in any way.

Apparently, a recent photo floating around the web showed the dress before and after Kim K wore it. However, a representative of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! who bought the dress for $4.8 million in 2016 is coming to Kim’s defense.

As explained by the representative,

“A report was written on the dress’s condition in early 2017 states, “a number of the seams are pulled and worn. This is not surprising, given how delicate the material is. In addition, there is puckering at the back by the hooks and eyes,” among other instances of damage.”

Since Ripley’s purchased the dress, it has been displayed worldwide, a process that has also put the piece at risk for damage.

As Ripley’s VP of Publishing and Licensing, who was there with Kim on the entire day of The Met Gala, says,

“From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top, where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in.”

It is the same dress Marilyn Monroe wore for President John F. Kennedy’s birthday in 1962 when she sang the Happy Birthday song for him.

After being denied permission by Ripley’s, Kim lost 16 pounds to fit into the piece.

Additionally, Kim had been gifted a piece of Monroe’s hair, and one account that claimed she damaged the dress also claimed the hair was fake. This, too, has been proven false.

While Kim has taken a lot of heat for the alleged damage, Ripley’s is clear that all her haters need to back off.
