In 1984, Madonna’s performance at the MTV Video Music Awards nearly ruined her career.

On Wednesday’s “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Janet began her interview by explaining she had “no say” over the singles released by her label.

It was Madonna’s song choice, “Like a Virgin,” that she thought would cause controversy when she entered the 1984 MTV Video Music Awards. In the end, a wardrobe malfunction stole the show, however.

“I was trying to do this smooth move, like, dive for the shoe and make it look like choreography, and my dress flipped up, and my butt was showing,” she said. “Can you imagine? Those were the days when you shouldn’t show your butt to have a career. Now it’s the opposite.”

Madonna says she had no intention of showing her backside during her performance. And continue her performance.

“It happened by accident, and I didn’t even know my butt was showing. And it wasn’t even like, the whole butt. It was like a butt cheek. Like, half of a butt cheek,” she explained. “When I went backstage, my manager told me my career was over with.”

Now pop legend superstar is enjoying the release of her new album “Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones,” which includes remixes of some of her biggest hits. As part of her appearance on the talk show, Madonna talked about a performer she would love to collaborate with someone.

“I mean, there’s one artist that I worship more than anything, and I would love to collaborate with him, and that’s Kendrick Lamar,” she added. “His new record is history-making ‚Ķ mind-bogglingly brilliant. It’s insane.”

She says in the interview that her 16-year-old son, David Banda, wears her clothes better than her.

Madonna’s manager says your career would be over.
