On Sunday, Megan Hilty’s brother-in-law, sister, and niece were among those aboard the seaplane that crashed near Seattle. According to reports, the actor’s three family members are presumed dead.
As confirmed by a release on Tuesday, Hilty’s sister, Lauren Hilty, as well as Ross Mickel, Hilty’s brother-in-law, and the actress’ niece Remie Mickel were among the ten people aboard a plane from the US Coast Guard that crashed into Puget Sound.
The death of one person and the disappearance of nine others were reported to the police on Sunday afternoon.
Crews had recovered a female’s body in Mutiny Bay off Whidbey Island on Sunday evening. However, the Coast Guard stated that the body had not yet been positively identified.
On Monday evening, the Coast Guard announced on Twitter that the search for the remaining nine people was called off.
The Coast Guard informed, “All next of kin have been notified of this decision. Our hearts go out to the families, loved ones, and friends of those who remain missing and the deceased.”
In addition to being the owner of Ross Andrew Winery, Ross Mickel was a well-known winemaker.
As Andrew’s family confirmed, Lauren Hilty was pregnant at the time of the crash in a statement.
According to the statement, “We are deeply saddened and beyond devastated at the loss of our beloved Ross Mickel, Lauren Hilty, Remy, and their unborn baby boy, Luca.”
In the statement, the family added, “Our collective grief is unimaginable. [Yet], they were a bright and shining light in the lives of everyone who knew them. Although their time with us was too short, we will carry their legacy forward.”
