Christina Ricci Shares Threats with Lawsuit Over Uncomfortable Sex Scene

Christina Ricci has come forward to share her experience of being threatened with a lawsuit over a sex scene she was uncomfortable with during the early days of her acting career. In a recent episode of The View, the Yellowjackets star expressed her delight at how performers now have more agency over their sex scenes in Hollywood, which was not the case when she started in the industry.

Ricci noted how younger actresses can now set boundaries for themselves, a luxury she and other older actresses were never afforded. “Someone threatened to sue me once because I didn’t want to do this sex scene in a certain way,” Ricci said, without mentioning the project in question. However, she was glad to see that things had changed for the better since then.

In a similar interview with Sydney Sweeney for Variety last June, Ricci recounted the same experience of being threatened with a lawsuit over a sex scene. The 43-year-old actress, who made her film debut at age nine, added that such a situation would never happen now. Ricci cemented her name as a teen idol with her roles in Casper, Now and Then, and Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain, among others. However, she considers her role in Yellowjackets as “one of the most incredible experiences” of her career.

Ricci and her older Yellowjackets co-stars often discuss how great it is to see younger actresses setting boundaries for themselves, something they could not do when they were starting in Hollywood. “It’s really great. Us older ladies talk about it all the time,” Ricci said, adding that she was amazed to see that younger actresses don’t necessarily have to go through the things they had to. While she didn’t reveal the name of the project, she shared that someone threatened to sue her once because she didn’t want to do a sex scene in a certain way. However, it appears that nothing came to fruition, and Ricci was pleased to see that things have “really changed” in Hollywood since then.

Along with her role in Yellowjackets, Ricci starred in Netflix’s Wednesday, a spin-off of The Addams Family. The two-time Emmy-nominated actress, who became a household name starring as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family at the age of ten, has since added several other film and television projects to her portfolio. She notes that as she has grown older, she is no longer asked to participate in sex scenes as much as before. In her earlier years, Ricci used to stay naked on set to make others feel uncomfortable, but she wouldn’t be allowed to do that now.

It’s inspiring to see how performers now have more control over their sex scenes, a luxury not available to older actresses like Christina Ricci. With the industry pivoting to view performers’ consent and agency in a different light, it is a relief to know that younger actresses can now set boundaries for themselves.
