It’s time for Jo Koy to be accountable, says Chelsea Handler

After Chelsea Handler ended her relationship with Jo Koy in July 2022, she opened up about her relationship with him. They started dating each other a year before. 

Handler and Koy were introduced by a mutual friend about 20 years back. 

Jo was a regular guest on her E! show, Chelsea Lately. They went official about their relationship in September 2021.

After five months of breakup, she gave an interview to Brooke Shields Now What? podcast. Chelsea indicated that she was head over heels in love with Jo Koy. He was the true love she was looking for in her life. 

She was ecstatic that Chelsea was blessed to have the career, respect, family, and friends and now the perfect guy she imagined.

She also termed her relationship with Jo Koy as an example of “seminal” or “now what” moments.

After meeting Jo Koy, she was considering marriage and had a deep conversation with Jo. But, by the time their relationship was nearing an end, Chelsea realized Jo was not the guy. 

She blamed the breakup on “some behaviors” that they disliked about each other. Chelsea Handler was adamant about letting go of certain habits, which she might have been okay with if she was 20-25 years. She said, “I am not going to change the way that I behave in order to make you feel more comfortable. I’m not doing that, and I had to walk away from something that I really believed was gonna be a forever relationship, so that was difficult.”

However, Chelsea expressed that it was very painful for her. She said, “I was in a lot of pain, but it was unacceptable. I said this can’t happen. Our relationship just devolved, and we both could not agree on a situation or several situations, and I thought therapy could help — it did not — and I exhausted any avenue I could think of, and then I just realized this is futile.”

She admitted that it wasn’t easy walking away from him and that they hadn’t spoken for a while. 

Handler blamed Koy for not taking responsibility for how the relationship turned out. She said, “There has to be some accountability … from him about what happened because it was just ridiculous, and I don’t think we can have a friendship until there’s some accountability and some responsibility taken,” she concluded.

However, Chelsea Handler is still interested in restoring their friendship. “We had a really great friendship, and I would love to have that again, you know, but without a couple steps in the right direction, I don’t see that happening.”
