Pokemon to drop Ash Ketchum and Pikachu- Here is the reason why
One of the most successful cartoon shows, Pokemon, has decided to drop its main characters, Pikachu and Ash Ketchum. The Pokémon Company announced the news on December 17, 2022.
A video was posted to Twitter, officially informing the Pokémon fans. The company said that in the new 2023 series, they would replace them with two new main characters- Liko and Roy.
Liko is a young girl who, along with Roy, a boy, will embark on the journey with the help of starter pocket monsters from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Additionally, the Pokémon company said it would “commemorate Ash’s journey with special episodes concluding Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series” beginning next year. They added, “The final chapter in Ash and Pikachu’s story: 11 episodes will air starting Friday, January 13 2023 in Japan.”
The show was first aired on April 1, 1997, on TV Tokyo in Japan. It has aired for 25 years.
The decision to drop the characters was organic. Ash finally established himself as the world’s foremost Pokémon trainer by winning the World Coronation Series and getting crowned as the Pokémon master.
