In the upcoming film House of Gucci, Patrizia Reggiani is not thrilled about Lady Gaga portraying her.
On March 11, Patrizia told Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata, “I am rather annoyed at the fact that Lady Gaga is playing me in the new Ridley Scott film without having had the consideration and sensibility to come and meet me.”
Taking its inspiration from Sara Gay Forden’s 2001 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Tale of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed, filming on the project began in Rome in February.
In the upcoming film due out on November 24, Gaga plays Reggiani, who recruited a hitman in March 1995 to kill her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci.
The movie is starred by an American actor Adam Driver as Maurizio Gucci, Al Pacino as Maurizio’s uncle, adding Jared Leto and Jeremy Irons as the family member.
After Maurizio married Reggiani in 1973, the couple had two daughters named Allegra and Alessandra.
In 1985, Maurizio left his wife for a younger woman and never returned home. He left home telling her, he was going on a business trip.
The couple finally split up in 1991. Reggiani was diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly after the divorce. However, the tumor was removed successfully.
Eventually, she claimed that the tumor influenced her reasoning and led her to have her ex-husband killed on the stairs outside his office.
In 1997, Reggiani was arrested, and she went on to face a high-profile trial. A jury found her guilty of organizing Maurizio’s murder in 1998, and the court was persuaded of the murder and sentenced her to 29 years in prison, which an appeals court shortened to 26 years.
After serving 18 years behind bars, Reggiani’s sentence was reduced in 2016, when she was released for good behavior.
As part of an agreement she signed in 1993 with Maurizio’s estate, she was awarded an annuity of £900,000 following her release from prison.
Her daughters, Allegra and Alessandra, said that they intend to appeal the decision that she was also entitled to over £16 million in back pay for her time in prison.
