Woody Harrelson Pranks Justin Theroux During Filming of HBO’s ‘White House Plumbers

During a recent appearance on Good Morning America, Woody Harrelson shared a funny behind-the-scenes story about filming his upcoming HBO miniseries, White House Plumbers, with his co-star, Justin Theroux. In the scene in question, after the characters have been convicted and imprisoned, Justin has to carry Woody’s character to safety after he passes out.

However, Justin didn’t know that Woody had secretly attached a series of weights and sandbags under his costume to make him incredibly heavy. Justin struggled to carry Woody’s character, bleeding from his ears and veins popping out of his head, while everyone else on set laughed.

Woody admitted to adding weights to every part of his body, even his wrists and knees, and found their interactions on set to be “tempestuous.” Despite this, both actors enjoyed the show’s use of humor and the quality of the writing by Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck, who had worked on HBO’s Veep in the past.

The two actors also spoke about the bromantic bond they formed on set. Justin jokingly said that he was trying to “peel away” Woody from his previous bromance with Matthew McConaughey.

The miniseries follows the story of the Watergate scandal cohorts E. Howard Hunt (played by Harrelson) and G. Gordon Liddy (played by Theroux) and the events that led to one of the biggest political scandals in history.

Both actors praised the show’s use of humor and how it portrayed the characters, even though Woody found his real-life character to be “atrocious.” White House Plumbers will premiere on HBO on May 1, 2023.
