According to reports, Anne Heche is suspected of having been under the influence of cocaine and possibly fentanyl when she tragically crashed her car last Friday.
The Los Angeles Police Department made it public on Thursday that the actress had tested positive for both substances in her blood test.
It was noted, however, by law enforcement insiders that while Heche was in the hospital following the accident, fentanyl may have been administered to her to manage her pain. The team will test further to determine if fentanyl was present in her system when she crashed.
While a photo showing a red-capped bottle in her car’s cupholder just before the accident appeared to indicate the actress may have been under the influence of alcohol, evidence suggests otherwise.
Her condition has also been described as “dire” since being admitted to the hospital, as she hasn’t improved since then.
In response to the woman whose home Heche crashed into, officials expanded their investigation to a felony DUI on Wednesday. According to reports, the Los Angeles Fire Department obtained a warrant to test the actress’ blood for alcohol and/or drugs after she shoved her car into a woman’s home, igniting a massive fire.
A rep for Heche later that day confirmed she was “in critical condition. Shortly after the accident, Anne Heche became unconscious, slipping into a coma. She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention.”
There is no clear evidence of how much progress has been made by doctors so far.
