Who is Robert Shapiro?

Robert Shapiro is the first attorney OJ Simpson hired for fighting this case. He is one of the most successful US lawyers with some notable winnings under his belt.

Robert Shapiro childhood

Robert Leslie Shapiro was born on September 2nd, 1942, to a Jewish family in Plainfield, New Jersey. He comes from a well-to-do family. They supported his studies for law school.

Robert studied at Loyola Law School of Los Angeles (1968) and got his Juris Doctor there. Shapiro graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1965 with a B.S. in Finance.

He completed his studies at Hamilton High School. He graduated from there in 1961. Robert pledged the Jewish fraternity Zeta Beta Tau along with his friend, Roger Cossack, at UCLA.

Robert got his admission to the State Bar of California in 1969. He has served to see the cases of different notable personalities like O.J. Simpson, Darryl Strawberry, Jose Canseco, Vince Coleman, Johny Carson, Christiano Brando, Linda Lovelace, the Kardashians, and F. Lee Bailey.

Robert married Linell Shapiro in the 1970s. They have two children – Brent Shapiro and Grant Shapiro. Robert’s family lost Brent due to a drug overdose.

The FX TV series ‘People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story’ made him a big hit once again. John Travolta played Robert’s character. Robert Shapiro got a chance to appear on the big screen in ‘An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn’ (1997).

Robert lost his son Brent in 2005. Brent was only 24 years old when he died. The death brought a change in his attitude. He thought of founding the Brent Shapiro Foundation. The NGO helps to raise drug awareness and also runs a rehabilitation facility.

Besides it, Robert also worked on improvising the laws that allow any drug addict to report immediately to the police about their overdose without facing any additional legal troubles.
