Who is Sam Worthington?

Sam Worthington was born on August 2, 1976. His full name is Samuel Henry John Worthington. Worthington is an actor, voice actor, and writer. The actor is known for his role as Jake Sully in the Avatar film series. He has also been a part of many successful movies such as Terminator Salvation, and Clash of the Titans, and Wrath of the Titans, Everest, Hacksaw Ridge, The Shack, and Fractured. Apart from this, Worthington has voiced Captain Alex Mason in the video games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Early life, upbringing, and education

Sam Worthington was born in Godalming, Surrey, in South East England. However, his family moved to Perth, Western Australia, when Sam was only six months old. Thus, Sam spent most of his childhood in Australia. He was raised in Warnbro, Rockingham. 

Worthington’s mother’s name is Jeanne Martyn who is a homemaker. Likewise, his father’s name is Ronald W. Worthington who works at a  power plant. Regarding siblings, Sam Worthington has a sister named Lucinda Worthington.

The actor attended John Curtin College of the Arts to study drama. However, he dropped out of college when his father gave him $400 and sent him on a one-way trip to Cairns, Queensland so that he could “work his way home”. It took a while for Worthington to get back home. During his struggle period, he worked as a construction worker and bricklayer. He eventually settled in Sydney and auditioned for the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) after which he received a scholarship.

Sam Worthington career

Worthington made his debut alongside Adam Garcia in the Aussie dance film Bootmen released in 2000. After this, he appeared in the low-budget Aussie comedy Gettin’ Square. He gained major recognition after appearing in the 2004 film Somersault. In fact, Worthington was even awarded the AFI Award for Best Lead Actor for his exceptional performance. 

After a string of successes in Australian cinema, Worthington started getting cast in many Hollywood movies. In 2005, he appeared in the film The Great Raid. He was cast in Terminator Salvation as a cyborg named Marcus Wright. 

He also played the role of Jake Sully in the sci-fi film Avatar. Moreover, he has lent his voice for the character Captain Alex Mason in the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops. In 2012, Worthington starred in Wrath of the Titans and in the suspense thriller film  Man on a Ledge. In 2019, Worthington was cast as Ray Monroe in the Netflix film Fractured. 

Relationships and dating history

Worthington started dating Australian model Lara Bingle in 2013. The couple got married in December 2014. They welcomed their son in 2015, and the duo welcomed their second son the following year. In 2020, Lara and Sam became parents again when their youngest son was born.
