McGregor has signed on to star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the remake of ‘Road House.’
Megastar UFC fighter Conor McGregor is making his way to the big screen.
McGregor, the last fighter to fight in 2021, will star in Amazon Prime’s remake of the 1989 action film “Road House,”
It is the first film credit for a controversial fighter. It is unknown what McGregor’s role would be, but he will play an original character instead of his own.
“Conor McGregor is very excited to expand his storied career to Hollywood and join with Jake Gyllenhaal in this reimagining of ‘Road House,’ a beloved classic,” Karen J. Kessler, McGregor’s spokesperson, said.
“While fighting remains his top focus, this is the beginning of another successful venture in the McGregor empire. He is eager to get started filming.”
A post on McGregor’s social media accounts teased his appearance on Wednesday. The film will be produced by Amazon Studios in the Dominican Republic and released on Prime Video by August.
The release date has not been announced up until now.
Originally titled “Road House,” the film starred Swayze as “Dalton,” who works as a bouncer in a small Missouri town bar. Reimagined version of the cult classic will star Jake Gyllenhaal as a former UFC fighter living in the Florida Keys.
He hadn’t stepped into the octagon since July, when he sustained multiple stress fractures in his left leg after losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.
The 34-year-old pursuing a career in the movie industry is the latest venture the Irishman has taken outside his UFC career.
Before this occurred, the former UFC champion would appear on the screen. In 2016, McGregor planned to appear in the Vin Diesel-led film xXx: The Return of Xander Cage but backed out of the project.
He was the highest-paid athlete in 2021, earning about $208M through endorsements. Proper No.12 belongs to him for a majority stake is sold. According to ESPN, the deal is worth approximately $600 million.
Since then, he has fallen out of the world’s top-grossing athletes, although he is the highest-paid fighter in the UFC.
