The latest episode of “WandaVision” had a special moment for Monica Rambeau, with Teyonah Parris’ character playing an integral role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
There have been rumors for quite some time that Monica Rambeau might have superpowers as a result of being encircled by energy boundaries from Wanda’s Westview.
In the comic book world, Rambeau is also known as the superhero Photon/Pulsar, and more recently as Spectrum. Her powers were acquired after being hit by extradimensional energy, making her the second Captain Marvel.
As opposed to the comic, where the extradimensional energy came from the energy disruptor weapon, the energy that hit Rambeau in the TV show came from the force field surrounding Wanda’s Westview. Having already been through the force field a couple of times, Wanda widened the force field’s radius in Episode six, and the walls of energy appeared stronger than ever in the most recent episode.
They were so powerful that a heavily armored spacecraft couldn’t make it through. Then, in a trippy sequence where she walked herself, we heard more than one key character, including a young Monica, Maria, Nick Fury, and Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) herself.
The voices also discussed Monica’s mother Maria, and included quotes from “Captain Marvel,” all to say that Monica was fighting her way through the barrier of energy. In the sequence, Danvers says in the last line: “Your mum’s lucky. When they were handing out kids, they gave her the toughest one.”
Monica took this as her motivating power, and emerged into Westview with glowing blue eyes and heightened vision.
Within the static wall, she donned a new outfit similar to the colorful outfit of Photon, a fan-favorite superhero costume.
Finally, we got to witness Wanda and Monica facing off against each other, concluding with Monica’s first-ever superhero sighting.
