Jovelyn’s family expressed disbelief at the discovery of her skeletal remains and the presence of underwear that did not belong to her.

Jovelyn Galleno Murder Case Update

The Office of the City Prosecutor handling the Jovelyn Galleno rape and murder case has dropped the charges against the two suspects, Leobert Dasmariñas and Jovert Valdestamon.

The prosecutor stated that the evidence gathered by investigators failed to establish probable cause against them and would not hold up in trial.

The alleged admission of guilt by Dasmariñas during interrogation was considered made under duress, and the corroborating evidence found near his residence was deemed highly questionable.

Additionally, there was no conclusive evidence of rape based on examining the skeletal remains and the absence of DNA profiles on the victim’s garments.

The defense counsel anticipated the dismissal, citing the weaknesses in the prosecution’s evidence, including the lack of witnesses and the retraction of Dasmariñas’ confession.

The police and National Bureau of Investigation will review the case, but the City Prosecutor emphasized the need for robust evidence to establish probable cause.
